Shay Mitchell is a Canadian actressmodeland entrepreneur. Most famous for playing Emily Fields, she is the star of the Freeform TV show Pretty Little Liars. After excelling at dance and modeling, she decided to give acting a try and began taking acting classes in Toronto. Mitchell appeared in a variety of commercials and was a guest on TV series prior to landing her debut character as Emily Fields. Critics and fans praised her skills as an actor. She then made her mark in the film industry with such films as DreamlandMother's Dayand The the Posession of Hannah Grace. The actress starred in the The psychological thriller 'You', which earned her with wider recognition. In addition to acting, she has ventured into writing. Along with Michaela Blayne, Mitchell wrote a novel for adults called Bliss. Shay Mitchell was raised in Ontario with her parents Mark Mitchell & Precious Gonzalez. She was born 10th April 1987. She's of Filipina heritage, and her father is of Scottish/Irish origins. Mitchell's cousin has the name of Lea Salonga who is a famous musical theater performer and actress. Mitchell attended Rockridge Secondary school before she transferred into West Vancouver Secondary. The actress had already been modeling across the globe by her late teens. She traveled to Barcelona, Bangkok, Hong Kong and finally returned home to Toronto where she began studying acting.
