Katja Herbers was born in Germany to Vera Beths, a violinist and Werner Herbers, an oboist. As a child, she spent time in America with her mother as she went on tour with the chamber music ensemble L'Archibudelli. Her introduction to theatre was through her cellist mother Anner Brylsma and her father Leonie P Olak. Herbers was just a little girl when she Herbers worked as an Canadian Au Pair and was fluent in Dutch German and English. Herbers attended the Ignatius Gymnasium located in Amsterdam.
